It’s contest season throughout the Toastmasters’ world. Bolton Banter held its Humourous Speech and Table Topics contest on September 29th and on October 6th hosted the Area 12 competition. The Division M competition is set for Saturday, October 29th from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The contest will be held at the Innisfil Community Church, 1571 Innisfil Beach Road in Innisfil. There is a cost recovery fee of $10 per person. It will be an opportunity to hear the best speakers in the division. Mark your calendars and remember what a former world champion speaker once said about contests. “We don’t compete because we are the best, we become our best because we compete”.
At Bolton Banter, we welcomed Caledon’s Mayor, Allan Thompson to our October 20th open house. Mayor Thompson was once himself a Toastmaster and spoke about the benefits he derived from his membership. He feels his Toastmasters experience enabled him to successfully spar with the feisty former mayor of Mississauga Hazel McCallion.
Thanks to everyone who helped with this meeting including our speakers Ed Risi and Pat Burness. A special thanks to Chair Laurie Stapleton and to our VP Education Pat Burness who works hard to ensure each meeting is a success. We extend a hearty “welcome back” to club founder Eric Solowka who has been recovering from surgery.
Our next meeting will be held November 3rd. See you then.
Best regards – Lorraine Van Wagner, DTM, Webmaster
