For our November 17th meeting, chair Ben Hayhoe chose “Push Yourself” and “Hunger” as theme and word of the meeting.  To paraphrase Ben’s wise words,  you need to push yourself in order to succeed and you need to have that indefinable hunger for success that propels you forward as you progress in life.  Unfortunately, hunger also has another much sadder connotation so we at Bolton Banter Toastmasters urge everyone to remember those who may be in need during this upcoming holiday season by donating to the many reputable charities that work tirelessly to help those less fortunate.  As Charles Dickens famously noted, “want is most keenly felt” at the Christmas season.

It is always a special meeting when we have an icebreaker speech on the agenda.  Tonight, Sylvia Rodas introduced herself in “The Introverted Extrovert”.  Sylvia not only received her icebreaker pin, she was also voted best speaker of the evening.  What a great way to start your Toastmasters journey!  Congratulations Sylvia.   Pat Burness was voted best Table Topics speaker and Mike Proudlock was voted best evaluator.

We also heard speeches from Zlata Proudlock and Pat Burness.  Zlata, in “Caveat Emptor”, reminded us that we need to be very vigilant in order to combat the many scams that abound on the internet.  Pat, in “Plastic or Wood”, continued her discussion of the “dreaded recorder”.

Gemma Duley will be leading a workshop at the upcoming District 86 fall conference in Niagara Falls.  In preparation, she presented for our consideration “Effective Feedback”.  As per VP Education Pat Burness, members were requested to give Gemma two stars and a wish, that is, two” thumbs up” comments  plus a suggestion for enhancement.  We know that Gemma and Mike Proudlock, who will also be making a presentation at the conference, will do a fabulous job.

Thanks to all who helped with organizing a great meeting.  We meet again on December 1st.  We ask you to note a few changes to future meetings.  The December 15th meeting will be our holiday celebration and will be held at the home of Lorraine Van Wagner.  All members and their spouses/significant others are invited.  We will not meet on January 5th, 2017  as the children will still be on Christmas break.  Instead, we will meet on January 12th and January 19th.

Cheers and best regards – Lorraine Van Wagner, DTM, Webmaster
